SAIL for National Board Certified Teacher

The online SAIL professional development for NBCT is a blended model of advancing the Teaching and Learning and Teacher Leadership skills of NBCT graduates. SAIL for EDUCATION sponsors 18 credits toward the doctoral degree for NBCT graduates via the 2 year professional development cycle (4 modules per year). These 18 graduate credits may be applied toward an EdD or PhD in Education with NBCT specialization.

NBCT teachers will receive 6 credits toward the 51 credit Doctor of Education degree or the 54 credit hour Doctor of Philosophy degree from Northcentral University (NCU). NCU is a regionally accredited fully (100%) online institution of higher education.

Year 1 — Module 1 (12 weeks)
The Power of Teachers: Creating the sense of urgency for student expectations.

Year 1 — Module 2 (12 weeks)
Accomplished Teachers as Leaders: Examining leadership styles, behaviors and paradigms as they relate to professional roles and responsibilities.

Year 1 — Module 3 (12 weeks)
The Power of Teachers: Teaching for understanding by creating the connections for meaningful learning.

Year 1 — Module 4 (12 weeks)
Accomplished Teachers as Leaders: Exploring leadership models that promote collaborative relationships with school administrators.

Year 2 — Module 5 (12 weeks)
The Power of Teachers: Managing and monitoring student learning- Assessment of and for learning.

Year 2 — Module 6 (12 weeks)
Accomplished Teachers as Leaders: Building collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues.

Year 2 — Module 7 (12 weeks)
The Power of Teachers: Reflecting on systemic teacher practice.

Year 2 — Module 8 (12 weeks)
Accomplished Teachers as Leaders: Engaging the village to educate the child.

The remaining 27 credits toward the Doctor of Education degree (EdD) are as follows:

  • EDR7000 — Educational Research Strategies (3crs)

  • CMP8091e — Comprehensive Course in NBCT/SAIL specialization (3crs)

  • RSH1000 — Research Design - Qualitative (3crs)
  • RSH2000 — Research Design - Quantitative (3crs)
  • RSH3000 — Survey Methodology (3crs)
  • RSH4000 — Personalizing NCU Research (3crs)

  • ED9005 — The Concept Paper (3crs)
  • ED9019 — The Dissertation Proposal (3crs)
  • ED9029 — The Final Dissertation Report (3crs)

Total credits = 27 + 6 NBCT +18 SAIL = 51 credits

The Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) requires an additional ED5020 — Statistics course along with an Oral Defense of the dissertation. The PhD program is 54 credit hours.

NBCT SAIL participants are LOCKED in at $475 per credit for the duration of their degree completion.

Application fee: $250

Cost of SAIL program = $5000 which represents a $ 3,910 savings for 18 credits at NCU rate of $495 per credit.

Cost of NCU program = $12,825 for 27 credits ($475 SAIL price) +$5000 for SAIL
Dissertation Fee: $1600 (one time fee)
Graduation Fee: $200 (one time fee)

Total cost for Partnership Program = $19,875.00
